Spring Into Action: Volunteers Needed!

It’s spring time…

Which means that thousands of agricultural workers from Mexico, Jamaica and Guatemala have started to come to the Okanagan Valley. These workers will toil throughout the season, producing much of the food that ends up on our plates.

Despite the contributions of seasonal agricultural workers to the community, there are few supports to help them feel welcome and navigate the unfamiliar.

RAMA works to fill this gap. Every year, we support workers in a variety of ways. This year, even more workers are slated to come to the Okanagan, which means…

We Need Volunteers!

RAMA is due to have a very busy summer season, and we could definitely use your help, hands and hearts. Specifically, we are looking for volunteers who can help in the following areas:

  • Worker accompaniment (e.g. shopping, doctor’s visits, banking, etc.)
  • ESL teachers (substitute teachers, teaching assistants, tutors)
  • Transportation (e.g. to and from social events)
  • Logistics planning assistance
  • Entertainers and cooks for social events

If you are interested and have time, e-mail us at hola@ramaokanagan.org and let us know what you’re interested in, an estimate of how much time you have (e.g. 1 day all season, a couple days a month, etc.) and whether you speak any Spanish.

If you can’t commit to volunteering, but are still interested in RAMA, sign up for our newsletter. Don’t worry — it’s low frequency (1-2 times per month) and we only tell you the good stuff!
