We stand in solidarity with the Syilx Okanagan Nation Chiefs and condemn the actions of UBC faculty pursuing legal action
RAMA Okanagan stands in solidarity with the Syilx Okanagan Nation Chiefs and condemns the actions of the group of UBC faculty members who are pursuing legal action in an attempt to stop the university from making land acknowledgements. RAMA Okanagan rejects the notion put forth by this small group of faculty that land acknowledgements can be characterized as political beliefs which can be debated – the history and stewardship of lands are both historical and legal realities, not matters of opinion. RAMA Okanagan will continue to acknowledge the lands and territories of the indigenous communities within which we work alongside migrant workers as settlers and uninvited guests. We are committed to working toward decolonization of the legal and immigration systems, and labour regimes of so-called Canada, along with the educational institutions that uphold these systems.
